Piediluco

Lake Piediluco, just a short distance from our property, enchants visitors with its beauty. This floodplain lake reflects the silhouettes of the surrounding mountains, the ancient fortress, the colorful houses of the village nestled in a bend of the lake, and the fishermen’s boats, giving Piediluco an atmosphere reminiscent of Alpine lakes, with the snow-capped peaks of Mount Terminillo in the background.

The majestic and solitary medieval fortress overlooks the village, adding an imposing presence to the surrounding landscape. The houses are situated near the ancient sacred forest from which the lake takes its name—”Lucus” meaning “sacred grove” in Latin. On the opposite shore rises the “Mountain of Echo.”

Lake Piediluco is also renowned for its National Rowing Center, which hosts national and international regattas, including the prestigious Memorial Paolo d’Aloja.

Its waters are teeming with fish, offering culinary delights that can be savored in the local restaurants. These eateries specialize in dishes made with lake and river fish, such as the traditional “carbonaretti”.

You can enjoy a unique experience by taking a sightseeing tour of the lake aboard the traditional rowboats used by fishermen or modern eco-friendly boats that navigate the Velino River. Discover stunning hidden corners, accompanied by guides who share the fascinating stories and legends of this magical place.
