Borgo San Valentino
The Albergo Diffuso “Borgo San Valentino” embodies a unique philosophy: to create a magical refuge of beauty, art, and history where time seems to slow down.
Born from an ambitious project in the 1980s, when Casteldilago was largely abandoned, Borgo San Valentino has gradually transformed into an oasis of authentic hospitality. Ancient buildings have been converted into original and genuine hotel rooms, following an innovative hospitality model that allows guests to enjoy traditional hotel services while living among the local residents, making them feel “at home” even on vacation.
A significant boost to the development of the Albergo came from the growing demand for accommodation during the filming of Roberto Benigni’s movies “Life is Beautiful” and “Pinocchio.” Falling in love with the Valnerina, Benigni chose our village as the operational base during the film productions.

The Albergo features 13 apartments located within the castle walls, all within a short distance of each other. These apartments have been meticulously restored to preserve their original architectural elements, including stone walls and ceilings with exposed wooden beams. Some even feature an original fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, while others offer panoramic terraces with breathtaking views of the Nera River Valley.

breakfast room
LA TAVERNA DEL TORCHIO
Our breakfast room has been created within the ancient cellar where, in the past, all the villagers used to bring grapes to be pressed in special tanks and processed into fine wine. Inside the venue, you can admire the grape collection tanks and an original wooden wine press from the 1800s, which gives the name “The Torch Press Tavern.”
Breakfast is served buffet-style, featuring locally sourced products that reflect Umbrian culinary traditions, including cured meats, cheeses, homemade jams, and desserts.
Osteria dello sportello
Located in the picturesque noble palace of the medieval village, Osteria dello Sportello is the beating heart of the property. With its stone walls, characteristic flooring, and exposed wooden beam ceilings, Osteria dello Sportello offers an authentic and captivating atmosphere.
The menu celebrates the local gastronomic culture, featuring appetizers with cured meats from native breeds, handmade pasta dishes, selected meats, and a wide variety of dishes enriched with Valnerina’s black truffle.

CERAMIC MUSEUM
During the renovation work of the Albergo Diffuso, an exciting discovery unveiled a hidden treasure in the heart of Casteldilago: an ancient “butto”—a cistern once used as a waste disposal site—was found to contain numerous artifacts of significant historical and artistic value.
Among the remarkable findings are kitchen ceramics, metal objects, fragments of chalices, bottles, glassware, toys, buckles, buttons, and even cowbells, all dating back to various periods.
